Deep tree-lined ravines, rolling hills, flower-speckled meadows and lush forests are just part of what you’ll see at the Austin Creek State Recreation Area. This flourishing 6,000-acre area provides everything an outdoor enthusiast needs.

Wander up to Bullfrog Pond and fish for trout or salmon (license required). Enjoy miles of hiking and horseback riding trails that climb to 1,500 feet. Deer, feral pigs, wild turkeys, foxes, coyotes, bobcats and even the occasional black bear or mountain lion live in this area. There are also numerous campsites at the Bullfrog Pond Campground. To get to the Austin Creek State Recreation Area, take River Road off Hwy 101 in Santa Rosa. Take Armstrong Woods Road two miles north of Guerneville. Go through the entrance for the Redwoods State Reserve. For more information, call (707) 869-2015.
