Instructor(s): Sonoma Coast State Park Lifeguard, Jeffrey Smith (Stewards Volunteer), Dr. Sarah Allen, Ph.D. (National Park Service), Ryan Berger (Whale Alert, Marine Mammal Center), Phil Warren (Marine Mammal Center), Bill Standley (Bureau of Land Management, CA Coastal National Monument), Paul Hobi (Seabird Protection Network & NOAA Marine Sanctuaries) & Hollis Bewley (Seabird & Tidepool Program Coordinator)

Description: This orientation covers all of our Sonoma Coast programs, including Whale Watch, Pinniped Monitoring, Seal Watch, Seabird Monitoring, Tidepool, and Steward Ship. Topics will include ocean safety, marine mammal/seabird identification, reporting wildlife disturbances, how monitoring data is beingused, dog policy and dealing with the public in a non-confrontational manner, and information about our affiliates at the Marine Mammal Center, California Coastal National Monument, and Seabird Protection Network.

Forest Bathing Walk @ Armstrong Redwoods Visitor Center

Forest Bathing Seminar & Walk

Join us for a 2-hour seminar on Forest Bathing, taking in the atmosphere of the forest for health and wellness purposes. We will explore the science and history behind the practice, deepening our understanding of its potency. After lunch, we will embark on a 2-hour guided Forest Bathing walk through the ancient redwoods, integrating and experiencing all we learned. Come and delight in the therapeutic benefits of our beloved Redwood grove.

Instructor(s): Denell Nawrocki, MA (Certified Forest Therapy Guide)

Fee: $16 Stewards members, $20 regular

Welcome to the home of the Bodega Bay Fisherman’s Festival. Since 1973, this event has celebrated our local fisherman and it’s when salmon season is kicked off with a blessing of the fleet. The Festival is packed with events for people of all ages: craft booths, live music, good food, entertainment and more.

The Fisherman’s Festival is an all-volunteer event and proceeds from the Festival benefit Bodega Bay Area community services.

Pond Farm Docent-led Tour @ Armstrong Redwoods Visitor Center

Pond Farm Docent-led Tour

Take a docent-led tour of Pond Farm Pottery and learn about the history of this significant cultural site that is on the National Register of Historic Places. Learn about the dreams and challenges of the Herr Family and Marguerite Wildenhain, the first woman master potter to graduate from the Bauhaus. Pond Farm was Marguerite’s home, school and studio for over 30 years and she taught hundreds of her students in the traditions of the Bauhaus. The tour begins at the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods office/Volunteer Center with a brief presentation, and afterwards participants will carpool up to Pond Farm Pottery.
