Best of Broadway—Best Night Ever
By Sarah Amador
The Best of Broadway is here! Some of you may have been lucky enough to have seen Transcendence’s Broadway Under the Stars concert in the ruins of Jack London Park. Now is your chance to see the best of this award-winning concert series at Luther Burbank Center of the Arts (March 11 and 12th).
It will be a brilliant, unforgettable night of Broadway music and dance, featuring over 20 performers from Broadway shows such as Wicked, Mamma Mia, The Book Of Mormon, Mary Poppins, and more. The concert will include favorite songs from each of Transcendence’s five seasons of summer shows, including big production numbers, a Fosse-style dance number, favorite Broadway solos, mash-ups, and one of the most celebrated pop songs the theater company has ever done. As in the past, all of the songs are performed with a live band.
The awards for this concert series are piling up! Broadway World San Francisco awarded Transcendence their 2016 Best Special Theater Event and gave the company the Theater of the Year award two years in a row. USA Today named it #2 Best Outdoor Concert Venue, the Press Democrat named it Best Theatre Company, and Huffington Post called it “joyous, uplifting, unforgettable.”
Plus, your ticket helps support the non-profit arts organization that saved Jack London State Park. In just five seasons, Transcendence has donated $267,000 to the park. Back in 2012, it was because of their dedication and donations that the park was able to stay open just when slated to close because of lack of funds. And that’s not all—part of ticket sales fund outreach and education programs, including Transcendence’s main outreach program this year, a partnership with Boys and Girls Club of Sonoma Valley.
The theater company’s tremendous work doesn’t stop there. Transcendence has produced over 20 free projects for those living with Alzheimer’s, autism, hospital needs, and underprivileged conditions. They connect our community, contributing over $107,000 in free tickets to youth and non-profit organizations, as well as teaching children the performing arts through their ever popular Kids Camp. In 2014, they won the Champions for Children award from the 4C’s of Sonoma County.
Come early and grab a bite to eat before the show from Croques & Toques! There’s also a VIP Experience you can opt for—exclusive pre-show festivities in the Carston Cabaret, live pre-show music performed, two glasses of premium California wines and a selection of artisan hors d’oeuvres.
For those of you who can’t catch the performance here in Sonoma County on March 11th or 12th, it’s not too late. The company will also be performing at the Marin Center on March 18 and 19th.
