If you need a break from driving, or just some respite from the daily grind, check out one of the delightful picnic areas here where the east and west forks of the Illinois River meet. Stretch your legs and enjoy the scenery. Keep your eyes peeled and explore the unique geological features and beautiful plant and animal life.
There are many fantastic fishing holes and spots along the banks of both branches of the river to fish from. Or you can strap on your binoculars and see the fantastic birds that inhabit the forest and river park. You’ll need to bring your own drinking water, but there are portable toilets. The park is open year-round for day use. There is no fee.
