On a trip to Crater Lake, Oregon’s only National Park, you will be transported into a magical wonderland with an explosive volcanic past. The deep blue lake is surrounded by sheer cliffs almost 2,000 ft. high. Take a boat tour over the surface of this marvelous lake, or hike the rim of the gigantic crater that holds the water.
There are trails that meander through the park’s wilderness areas. Hike to the top of Mount Scott, which tops out at more than 8,000 ft. With more than 500 inches of snowfall per year, much of the park is closed for the winter, but you can still enjoy cross-country skiing and weekend snowshoe hikes. There are numerous interpretive programs led by experienced and knowledgeable rangers, who make learning about the park fun for all ages. Kids can get into the Junior Ranger program and enjoy hands-on activities led by the rangers. The north entrance of Crater Lake National Park is located on Route 138, and the west entrance is located on Route 62.
